Eventia and the
concrete jungle that was!
200 delegates from top
events trade body company Eventia
descended upon St. Bartholomew’s Primary School last week to
paint and transform the school playground. St.
Bartholomew’s embraces diversity and cultural integration,
educating children from a huge variety of backgrounds,
speaking up to 24 different languages. Unfortunately it
is also the 3rd most deprived school in the city,
lacking any grassy play areas and providing only concrete for
the children to run and play on.
In many ways the scale of
this event made it even more of a challenge; however two hours
and 66 litres of paint later, the 200 Eventia volunteers had
successfully transformed the previously bland playground and
laid the basis for what we hope will be a long term
project.
Amanda Healey the Head
said, “The playground looks great, so much lighter and
brighter, and more inviting for the children. We are
absolutely delighted with the results.” The children
said “Thank you very much – it was old and now it is
new,” and, “Before it was grey and boring, but now
it looks really nice”.
Even the first coat of
white has made a fantastic difference to the vast amounts of
concrete, and the event not only greatly improved the play
environment for the children at St. Bartholomew’s, but also
created a worthwhile team building experience for the Eventia
delegates. This challenge proved to be a successful and
enjoyable project day for all involved!

How it works:
- Once matched to an
appropriate mentor the relationship will last a minimum of 3
months and can last for up to 6 months.

have an impact on your benefits
- If you require travel
costs to get to your meetings this can be arranged at no
cost to yourself.
- So far people have moved
into voluntary work, applied to go to College and applied
for more relevant jobs gaining interviews.
Previous feedback
from a participant:
"I have found the whole

The project’s aim is to
improve the quality of advice in social accounting in Sussex,
helping social enterprises gain expertise, better
understanding of their own performance, and a wider
appreciation of what procurers and commissioners are looking
for in suppliers.
The first event engaging
with procurers and commissioners from the statutory sector,
welcomed a number of enthusiastic and insightful procurers and
commissioners from across Sussex. Much was learnt from the
event, from both The Better Project team and the procurement
teams, and the energy created bodes well for the future of the
project.
The Better Project has
selected and offers a big welcome to the 6 social enterprises
to be involved in this exciting project.
