More Than Profit: Supporting The Growth Of Social Enterprise in our City

Social Enterprise
Business that's better for people, planet and profit

BCP is the lead organisation for social enterprise development in Brighton and Hove.

Our dedicated social enterprise team is responsible for building the more than profit network, a key component of the Social Enterprise Strategy & Action Plan for Brighton & Hove – produced by BCP and commissioned by Brighton & Hove City Council.

more than you might expect …

As part of our city's vision to create a lasting culture of social enterprise, you are invited to join the more than profit network.

It is open to anyone who is interested in playing a part in supporting the growth of social enterprise in Brighton and Hove. Whether you are an existing or budding social entrepreneur, belong to the local business community, work for a public body or come from the community and voluntary sector, we all have a role to play.

Social enterprises already contribute significantly to our economy and local employment. The network is all about creating more robust, sustainable enterprises. It is their desire to change society for the better, meet social need, regenerate communities and minimise environmental impact that makes the business model so special – creating a positive legacy for future generations. More than profit.

The Better Project

The purpose of The Better Project is threefold:

• to introduce and embed a social impact assessment tool/s into 6 social enterprises across Sussex.
• to enable those enterprises to produce high quality information to procurers, commissioners and support organisations thereby improving access to public procurement opportunities.
• to raise awareness of the social enterprise sector and its ‘offer' to procurement teams.

The Better Project is a Capacitybuilders funded project supported by 3 sub regional networks across Sussex:

• The More than Profit Network (Brighton and Hove)
• East Sussex Social Enterprise Network (ESSEN)
• West Sussex Social Enterprise Network (WSSEN)

And working with 6 Sussex based social enterprises:
1. Care Co-ops Brighton & Hove
2. Decoda East Sussex
3. Frame of Mind West Sussex
4. Furniture Now! East Sussex
5. The Aldingbourne Trust West Sussex
6. The Federation of Disabled People Brighton & Hove

The first in a series of project updates charting the progress of the social enterprises as they embed social impact assessment tools into their organisations is available to download here.
