What is Lifelines?

This networking challenge is to raise the awareness of the Lifelines project which is a multi partnership project in Brighton exploring new models of what a socially and economically active and healthy population of older people would look like.

Volunteering can help us all to lead healthier and longer lives.  We are reaching out to all ages especially the over 50's (they represent the largest groups across the South East) to show how you can take control of your own health and remain working and still in employment after reaching retirement age.

Come and join other business individuals along with other volunteers.

What is a networking challenge?

BCP's Networking Challenges give individuals an innovative way to network whilst carrying out a transformational activity within the local community.
Networking challenges provide a simple and effective way for SME's and other smaller organisations to participate in a CSR activity (providing real benefits for the local community), but also with the added bonus of being able to network at the same time. These challenges are an excellent opportunity for building on existing relationships with clients or providers or indeed to strengthen or create new business relationships with like minded people.

What will the networking challenge involve?

The networking challenge will involve both outside and indoor activities, covering tasks ranging from gardening, sanding and painting of window frames, painting of fencing, creation of murals, demolishing a shed to putting up new curtains/blinds.

Extratime runs 3 after school clubs and associated holiday play schemes and, more recently, in partnership with Sussex Central, 2 holiday schemes for young people with disabilities aged 11-19 years.
These clubs and play schemes are fully inclusive, catering for children of 5 - 19 years from both mainstream and special needs schools.  The children and young people who go the club have a wide range of special needs; physical, learning and behavioural and they provide one-to-one support to those children and young people who need it.

The extratime clubs fill a gap in after school care for children and young people with profound and/or multiple disabilities - care and play opportunities that simply didn't exist for these children and young people before extratime.  Their clubs are about giving every child and young person a chance to be accepted and included for who they are and helping children and young people learn about living in an inclusive society. They offer a great, fun experience to the children and young people and a valuable service to their families - families who sometimes struggle to cope not just with the challenges of caring for a disabled child but with the isolation and frustration that can go with this.

Why get involved?

Extratime's mission is: ‘We strive to provide high-quality, affordable out-of-school activities for children and young people aged 5-19 years, with and without disabilities, in a safe, fun environment'.  The networking challenge is to help the extratime club be able to provide the children and young people with a new and updated environment to play in.
