Mentoring is a mutually rewarding relationship and the training will provide you with new skills that you will be able to utilise within your work and personal lives. The skills learnt during training will benefit you within the workplace almost immediately and through using them whilst mentoring someone you will build on them by putting them into practice.
The training provides the following core outcomes:
* Identifying your own areas of excellence
* How to share your excellence with someone else
* How to create and sustain a learning partnership
* The artful use of language and questions
* How to overcome common blocks to learning
The mentees will come from priority groups which will include those on incapacity benefits, lone parents, most disadvantaged (e.g. ex-offenders, homeless people, persistent returners to Job Seekers Allowance), people with ‘basic skills' needs and jobseeker's allowance customers.
We are looking for people with skills from various different sectors, but also people who are committed, passionate, dedicated and willing to share their skills with others.
Each volunteer mentor will be required to attend two half day training sessions which are delivered by a professional trainer. The training provided is to ensure that all volunteer mentors have the appropriate tools to go on and be matched with a mentee. An application form will also need to be completed by anyone wishing to take up the opportunity.
Each mentoring relationship lasts a minimum of three months with an initial meeting taking place once per week for the first month and then a schedule will be agreed between mentor and mentee. All meetings need to take place at the mentors' place of work (means no travelling is required thus not impacting further on time and also means that the mentee gets used to going into a workplace again) and where possible e-mentoring can take place along with phone calls.
BCP will provide ongoing support to all volunteer mentors and training materials.
All volunteer mentors will be required to undergo a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check, these forms will be provided by BCP and dealt with by an umbrella organisation, and each business/organisation will be required to pay the £35 administration charge per check. These checks are carried out due to the nature of the work and some of the Clients being classified as a vulnerable adult.
Quotes from previous recipients of the mentoring training:
