Disney Magic happens at St. John the Baptist School
A recent BCP Team Building Challenge saw an exciting partnership formed between Disney's Black Rock Studio and St. John the Baptist School in Whitehawk. This local primary school teaches 4 to 11 year olds and focuses on the uniqueness of each individual regardless of race, gender, culture and physical or academic ability. On the 11th September Black Rock studio sent 17 'voluntEARS' as part of a new Disney scheme, to sand and paint the faded wooden fences in the playground as well as sanding and painting a series of metal benches in the same colour to match. They also sanded, treated and fixed 4 wooden picnic benches, and built 4 raised beds for planting flowers and vegetables, creating a beautiful space for the children to improve their social and educational development. It was a fantastic day for all involved and the school were incredibly grateful to all the volunteers, presenting them with a Thank-you card at a special assembly.
"Our team started at 9 in the morning and we were able to complete the task by 5 the same day. The finished result was fantastic and the new look made a big difference to the play area. Black Rock Studio embarked on the challenge as a way of enabling its staff to help local community projects. Working with BCP, we were able to provide support for St. John the Baptist School in Brighton with a spruce up of their outside play area." Chris Bowles - Black Rock Studio and Team Leader.
"Being part of the Disney company, Black Rock Studio was eager to make use of the Disney 'voluntEARS' scheme as a way of giving back to our local community. This is an ongoing scheme and this first successful project encouraged the rest of the company to get actively involved in future projects!" Tony Beckwith - Studio Head.
Not only did the Black Rock team enjoy a fantastic day but they also left a lasting impression on the children and the teachers at St. John the Baptist School.
"It was good to see that we can make our school better and be good for the environment. The plant boxes look great and they are built from recycled materials." (Year 5 child)
"Black Rock Studio showed us how you can all work together as a team and that you can achieve amazing things. They did all that building and painting in one day and they had lunch with us. Thank-you!" (Year 6 child)
"I liked the man who wore the ears" (Year 1 child)
Carmel Hughes, the headmistress added "The volunteers' work has made such a difference to our school. The blue gate and fences look amazing and the newly varnished benches and new planters really help to cheer up our playground. The sense of fun, team spirit and achievement witnessed by the children that day was such a good example for them - we were all hugely impressed! Thank-you so much to BCP and to Black Rock Studio."
