NEET Work placements in New Media

Academy Internet got involved with a project to train and place NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) young people into the New Media and Digital Media employment sector in Brighton with Action for Change.

The student, "Gary" started on the 1st. March 2006 and received a full induction, a task list, a mentor and agreed a set of rules within which the relationship would be conducted. He achieved some internet marketing work, some market research, some word processing and even organised a meeting for staff members. Most importantly he was able to get to work on time!

The most positive aspect of this project is that it cemented the relationship between Action for Change and Academy Internet for future, more strategic working.

The project also resulted in a deeper understanding of internal skills and interests as well as improvements in productivity and improved recruitment.

Out of 12 full time employees, 56% of employees found they were able to improve their training, mentoring and organisation skills.

Action for Change have gained an enthusiastic employer sponsor which is committed to working strategically over the longer term to help deliver their challenging but worthwhile objectives.

"The relationship has been a bonus which we had not anticipated at the outset, but one that is very welcome", John Reading CE of Action for Change
